Summary Flower Mirror is an interactive kinetic installation created to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Daimaru, a major Japanese department store chain. Mounted in an oval structure measuring approximately 16 × 10 feet, 3,000 artificial flowers open and close in response to the silhouettes of passersby, forming a "mirror made of flowers." At the core of this system, 100 STEP800 boards — each equipped with a WIZnet W5500 Ethernet controller — are connected via an Ethernet network to control 800 stepper motors in real time.
