PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In the evolving landscape of IoT, ensuring swift and reliable data communication is critical, particularly for applications like power phase detection systems. This study explores strategies for optimizing the response times of IoT APIs within edge computing environments.

 

Key components and findings of the system included:

  • WIZnet W5500 Ethernet Module: Integral for facilitating high-speed, stable internet connectivity crucial for real-time data communication between edge devices and central servers.
  • Edge Computing Architecture: By processing data at the network's edge, the system reduces latency significantly, allowing for faster response times compared to traditional cloud computing methods. This architecture is essential for applications requiring immediate data processing and feedback, such as power phase detection.
  • Optimized API Implementation: The study implemented and tested various API configurations to determine the optimal setup for minimizing response times. Techniques like local caching, efficient request handling, and reducing unnecessary data transfers were employed.

 

The system's performance was evaluated through several tests, which revealed a marked improvement in response times when using edge computing with WIZnet W5500 compared to standard cloud-based solutions. The study demonstrated that by optimizing the placement of microservices and SDN controllers, it is possible to achieve substantial reductions in latency, enhancing the overall efficiency and reliability of the IoT application.

 

Results showed that the strategic placement of computing resources and efficient API management could lead to up to 30% improvement in response times, making the system more suitable for time-sensitive applications. This approach not only improves the immediate operational efficiency but also enhances the scalability and robustness of the IoT infrastructure.
