W5100S-EVB-Pico - ethernet shield not found

Question

I'm trying to run this code on my W5100S-EVB-Pico: #include #include #include byte mac[] = { 0xDE, 0xAD, 0xBE, 0xEF, 0xFE, 0xED }; IPAddress ip(192, 168, 10, 202); EthernetServer server(80); const int ledPin = 25; // Onboard LED for Pico void blinkLED(int times, int delayMs) { //delayMs *= 50; for (int i = 0; i < times; i++) { digitalWrite(ledPin, HIGH); delay(delayMs); digitalWrite(ledPin, LOW); delay(delayMs); } } void setup() { pinMode(ledPin, OUTPUT); Serial.begin(115200); while (!Serial) { ; } Serial.println("Setup start"); digitalWrite(ledPin, HIGH); Ethernet.init(17); // WIZnet W5100S-EVB-Pico W5500-EVB-Pico Serial.println("Ethernet initialized"); if (Ethernet.hardwareStatus() == EthernetNoHardware) { Serial.println("Ethernet shield was not found. Stopping."); blinkLED(10, 100); while (true) delay(1); } if (Ethernet.linkStatus() == LinkOFF) { Serial.println("Ethernet cable is not connected."); blinkLED(5, 300); } Ethernet.begin(mac, ip); server.begin(); Serial.print("Server is at "); Serial.println(Ethernet.localIP()); digitalWrite(ledPin, LOW); Serial.println("Setup done"); } void loop() { EthernetClient client = server.available(); if (client) { Serial.println("New client connected"); blinkLED(2, 100); bool currentLineIsBlank = true; while (client.connected()) { if (client.available()) { char c = client.read(); Serial.write(c); if (c == '' '' && currentLineIsBlank) { Serial.println(" Sending response..."); blinkLED(3, 50); client.println("HTTP/1.1 200 OK"); client.println("Content-Type: text/html"); client.println("Connection: close"); client.println("Refresh: 5"); client.println(); client.println(""); client.println(""); for (int analogChannel = 0; analogChannel < 6; analogChannel++) { int sensorReading = analogRead(analogChannel); client.print("analog input "); client.print(analogChannel); client.print(" is "); client.print(sensorReading); client.println("
"); } client.println(""); break; } if (c == '' '') { currentLineIsBlank = true; } else if (c != '' '') { currentLineIsBlank = false; } } } delay(1); client.stop(); Serial.println("Client disconnected"); blinkLED(1, 200); } } It fails with: Ethernet shield was not found. Stopping. I've tried with two different devices, both with Arduino IDE and Visual Code Studio. The devices has a proper ethernet link (based on the LEDs). What is wrong here?
