W5500 Problem Linkstatus ESP32-S3

Question

Hi, i have a problem with my ESP32-S3 - W5500 - RJ45 schematic and i can't figure out what it is. I am using the HR911105A with magnetics, which should be compatible with the W5500. In my ESP32 i am using Ethernet_generic and i am able to find the W5500 through SPI. But no lights are on the RJ45 when connected to the router, and also i get linkStatus == 2 (not connected). I am sure it has something to do with the schematic, but i am not senior in schematics design, so it would help if someone could take a look and maybe find the problem? I followed the reference schematic but something must be wrong. Maybe it is the crystal? (this is the one i use: https://www.lcsc.com/datasheet/lcsc_datasheet_2411272241_Abracon-LLC-ABM8AIG-25-000MHZ-12-2Z-T3_C1985412.pdf). Any help would be very much appreciated Thanks Maurice

Hi Maurice, I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your ESP32-S3 and W5500 setup. Let's try to troubleshoot the issue together. 1. **Check the Crystal Oscillator**: Ensure that the crystal oscillator you are using is compatible with the W5500. The W5500 typically requires a 25MHz crystal. Verify that the load capacitance and other parameters match the requirements specified in the W5500 datasheet. 2. **RJ45 Connection**: Since you mentioned using the HR911105A with magnetics, double-check the connections between the RJ45 jack and the W5500. Ensure that the center taps of the magnetics are properly connected to the correct voltage levels as specified in the reference schematic. 3. **Power Supply**: Make sure that the W5500 is receiving the correct power supply voltage. Any deviation might cause the chip to malfunction. 4. **Reference Schematic**: Revisit the reference schematic for the W5500 to ensure all connections are correct. You can find the recommended RJ45 schematic using the W5500 [here](https://docs.wiznet.io/Product/iEthernet/W5500/ref-schematic#recommended-rj45-using-w5500). 5. **SPI Communication**: Since you can find the W5500 through SPI, it seems the communication is working. However, ensure that all SPI lines are correctly connected and that there are no loose connections. 6. **Driver and Library**: Ensure that the Ethernet_generic library you are using is correctly configured for the W5500. Sometimes, incorrect settings in the library can lead to connection issues. If you've checked all these and the issue persists, it might be helpful to share your schematic with someone experienced in hardware design for a more detailed review. You can also explore the WIZnet community for additional support and project examples that might be similar to yours: [maker.wiznet.io](https://maker.wiznet.io). I hope this helps you identify the issue. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask! Best regards, WIZnet AI Support Team
