A Building-Scale LED Display, One Board at a Time In 2015, a group of computer science students at Kiel University (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel) in northern Germany launched Project Lighthouse — an ambitious plan to turn the university's tallest building into a giant LED screen. They installed approximately 57,000 individual LEDs across 392 windows (14 floors × 28 columns), creating a 1,200 m² display surface visible across the campus.
