PROJECT DESCRIPTION

🔧 eBUS Adapter Shield C6 — Ethernet-Enabled Interface for eBUS Systems

The eBUS Adapter Shield C6 is a hardware and firmware project that provides an interface between eBUS-enabled heating, ventilation, or solar systems and various communication methods such as WiFi, USB, or Ethernet.

🚀 What this project does

Built around an ESP32-C6 with onboard antenna, USB-C port, and galvanic isolation for the eBUS interface (class 0 according to spec).

Supports multiple connection options: WiFi, USB (serial or JTAG), or Ethernet through an add-on module such as a W5500 Ethernet controller.

Offers a full firmware suite that includes a web-based interface and command-line tools for configuration, diagnostics, and firmware updates.

Intended for smart-home or energy systems where eBUS data can be integrated into MQTT or HTTP environments for automation or monitoring.

🧰 Key Features & Use Case

Connects directly to a two-wire eBUS line without drawing power from it, thanks to complete galvanic isolation.

Enables wired Ethernet connectivity for reliable, low-latency communication by attaching a compatible Ethernet module like the W5500.

Ideal for home automation setups where WiFi may not be stable, or where a wired connection is preferred for consistent data flow.

✅ Why this is relevant for makers

This project demonstrates a practical use of WIZnet W5500 in real-world embedded applications, showing how wired networking can complement IoT and smart-energy systems. It’s an excellent example of integrating Ethernet into mixed-connectivity devices, combining microcontroller control with robust network performance.

⚠️ Considerations

Ethernet module setup requires correct wiring and configuration; firmware version and IP settings must match the connected environment.

The adapter and firmware are tailored for eBUS systems, so repurposing it for other types of data networks may require firmware customization.
