Introduction

Project Description

Inspired by the natural efficiency of sunflowers, which orient themselves to best capture sunlight, this system adjusts the orientation of solar panels throughout the day to optimize energy capture using real-time sun position tracking managed by a network of sensors and actuators.
Why W5500 was Selected
The WIZNET W5500 chip was chosen for this project primarily for its robust Internet connectivity features. It offers a hardwired TCP/IP protocol stack that supports TCP, UDP, IPv4, ICMP, ARP, IGMP, and PPPoE, which are essential for IoT applications - thereby allowing the solar charge controller to be monitored and controlled remotely. This functionality is crucial for integrating solar power systems with modern smart home technologies.
How W5500 is Used
In this smart solar charge controller, the WIZNET W5500 chip is utilized to handle all communications over the internet. It connects the controller to a web server, enabling the device to send and receive data on solar panel performance and positioning adjustments in real time.
