Building the PP-W5500-POE Modul

PoE-powered W5500 Ethernet module combining data and power over one LAN cable. Ideal for IoT, embedded, and outdoor smart devices.

COMPONENTS
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Hardware Components

  • WIZnet W5500 Ethernet controller: Supports TCP/UDP/ICMP/IPv4/ARP/IGMP/PPPoE hardware stack, 8 socket simultaneous, 32 KB buffer, SPI interface.
  • PoE module supporting IEEE 802.3af (Mode A / Mode B): Input voltage 40 VDC–60 VDC, 8 W power output, built-in over-voltage/over-current protection, 2 kVrms isolation for industrial use.
  • On-board 10/100 Mbps Ethernet PHY with Auto-Negotiation, Full/Half duplex.
  • On-board LDOs providing 5 V and 3.3 V outputs, status LEDs for LINK/ACT/SPEED/DUAL.
  • SPI interface for host MCU connection (SPI mode 0, 3).

Project Overview
In many embedded and IoT applications there’s a dual need: network communication and power supply. The PP-W5500-POE module addresses this by combining the W5500 Ethernet controller with a PoE power module, enabling a single RJ-45 cable to provide both data and power. This reduces wiring complexity, especially in outdoor devices, sensors, digital signage, or locations where power lines are hard to run.
With built-in protections and industrial-grade isolation, it’s suitable even for demanding environments. It offers full Ethernet functionality via the W5500 and PoE convenience in a compact footprint.
For maker communities and IoT developers, this module is a strong candidate when you want wired Ethernet + power but minimal wiring.
Use-cases include: smart sensors, networked monitoring modules, outdoor IoT nodes, digital signage, factory instrumentation.
