# smartyReader

> SmartyReader with Ethernet

Original author: Guy Weiler (source: https://www.weigu.lu/microcontroller/smartyReader_P1/index.html)

## Components

- **WIZnet W5500** x 1 ([docs](https://docs.wiznet.io/Product/Chip/Ethernet/W5500))

WIZnet parts: W5500 ([Datasheet](https://docs.wiznet.io/Product/Chip/Ethernet/W5500/datasheet?utm_source=maker&utm_medium=project&utm_campaign=w5500), [product hub](https://maker.wiznet.io/products/w5500/))

## Article

To use Ethernet instead of WiFi a W5500 Ethernet breakout board can be added. In the software (<https://github.com/weigu1/SmartyReader/tree/main/Arduino/SmartyReader_P1_WiFi>.) you only have to uncomment the `**#define ETHERNET**` directive. The overall current with the shield is near the maximum 250 mA that are provided by the P1 port. Normally this works fine, but if you have problems it may be necessary to add an external power source.
