# Adding a cheap Ethernet Port to your ESP (revisited)

> A few months back I pointed readers to an article by Frank Sautter on adding an Ethernet port to the ESP32 which I found quite interesting.

The author describes a way to connect the W5500 module to the ESP8266 NodeMCU.

NodeMCU can connect to Wi-Fi networks and can act as a Wi-Fi access point, which enables it to communicate with other devices over the network.

The W5500 is an Ethernet controller that can be used with NodeMCU to add Ethernet connectivity to the board. Ethernet connections are generally more stable and reliable than Wi-Fi connections, especially in environments with high interference. In addition, the W5500 can be easily integrated with NodeMCU using the SPI interface, and many libraries are available to simplify the process of programming the board.

The author configured a pin map between W5500 and ESP8266 NodeMCU.

And the author published the source codes on the github repository. Its name is ESP-Now-Gateway.

Thank you for reading.
