# W5500 Current Consumption

## Question

Asked by nik on 2013-10-11 in Ethernet Chips.

WIZnet,

We are looking for a Ethernet interface IC for a product that needs to get to market quickly and power consumption is a critical issue.

Your sample schematics for the W5500 show that the center tap of the transformer is tied to the 3V feed via a 10ohm resistor.

The W5500 datasheet on page 61 shows the power dissipation at 100M transmitting to be 132mA and 10M transmitting 79mA.

The data sheet is not clear on whether the current consumption shown includes the center tap current or not.

What is the total current consumption for the device including the center tap to the transformer.

Thank you,
Nik

Hi, Nik .

Power dissipation in Datasheet contains center tap also crystal.

So, you can think it is total current consumption.

Best regards.
