# Need Guidance: Setting Up VS Code IDE and Development Environment for W55RP20-EVB-Pico on Windows

## Question

Asked by erdarshpatel on 2026-10-31 in MCU & Boards.

Hello WIZnet Community,

I am currently working with the **W55RP20-EVB-Pico** development board and would like some guidance on setting up a complete development environment using **Visual Studio Code on Windows 10**.

I have downloaded and cloned the official [WIZnet-PICO-C SDK](https://github.com/Wiznet/WIZnet-PICO-C) repository, including its submodules such as Pico SDK, ioLibrary_Driver, and mbedTLS.

However, I am facing some difficulties configuring the development environment, particularly with board configuration and CMake integration.

I would appreciate guidance on the following points:

**IDE Setup:** What is the recommended procedure for configuring Visual Studio Code for W55RP20 development?

**SDK Configuration:** Should I use the official WIZnet-PICO-C SDK directly, or is there another recommended SDK or framework?

**Board Configuration:** How should I correctly configure `W55RP20_EVB_PICO` in CMake? I encountered an error stating that the board definition could not be found in the Pico SDK.

**Toolchain:** What are the recommended versions and configurations for CMake, Ninja, ARM GCC, and the Raspberry Pi Pico SDK?

**Build and Flash:** What is the recommended workflow for compiling, generating UF2 files, and flashing firmware onto the W55RP20-EVB-Pico?

**Debugging:** Is there a recommended debugging setup or extension for VS Code?

My objective is to establish a reliable development environment for professional firmware development using C/C++.

If anyone has successfully configured the W55RP20-EVB-Pico with VS Code on Windows, I would greatly appreciate a step-by-step guide or a reference project.

Thank you for your support!
