# Reprogram W7500P

## Question

Asked by John626 on 2026-08-28 in MCU & Boards.

Have a 950-W7500P-S2E chip that has been programmed with a bin file. Is it possible to program over the top of this file? How is this done?

Thanks in advance

Yes, it is possible. The W7500P-S2E is a W7500P with the S2E firmware pre-programmed at the factory, but you can erase its internal flash memory and program a new BIN file.

There are two methods:

- To update the existing S2E firmware:
You can update it over Ethernet using the WIZnet Configuration Tool. However, the Boot and App firmware versions must be compatible.

- To install different firmware or replace the entire firmware:
Put the W7500P into BOOT mode, then use UART2 and the W7500 ISP Tool.
  1. Connect UART2 RX, TX, and GND to a USB-to-UART adapter.
  2. Power on or reset the device while the BOOT pin is active.
  3. Select and open the COM port in the W7500 ISP Tool.
  4. Erase the existing code flash.
  5. Select the new BIN file.
  6. Program the flash and reboot the device.

The ISP Tool erases the existing flash before programming. Therefore, technically, the new firmware does not overwrite the existing file directly; the existing firmware is erased and replaced with the new firmware.
