# Clarification on WIZ120SR Obsolescence, MCU Replacement, and Firmware Support

## Question

Asked by Arun141 on 2026-04-24 in Ethernet Chips.

Dear Team,

We would like to seek clarification regarding the current status and long-term support of the WIZ120SR module.

1. Kindly confirm whether the WIZ120SR has been declared obsolete and if its manufacturing has been discontinued.

2. Additionally, please clarify whether technical support for this module is still being provided.

We are extensively using the WIZ120SR in our systems, and it is expected to remain in operation for at least the next 10 years. Therefore, understanding its support lifecycle is critical for our maintenance planning.

Further, we would like clarification on the following technical aspects:

1. The module uses an MCU (quad IC). In case of MCU failure, can it be directly replaced with a new IC, or is firmware programming required after replacement?

2. If firmware loading is required, we kindly request you to provide the MCU firmware and the procedure for programming/loading the same.

Your guidance on the above points will help us plan future maintenance and ensure uninterrupted operation of our systems.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Please be informed that the WIZ120SR has been discontinued (obsolete), and technical support for this product is no longer available.
As an alternative Serial-to-Ethernet (S2E) module, we recommend the WIZ752SR-120.
Please refer to the link below for more details:
<https://docs.wiznet.io/Product/Modules/Serial-to-Ethernet-Module/WIZ752SR-120>

Regarding your technical questions, please find our responses below:

1. If the MCU is replaced, the firmware must be reprogrammed.

2. Firmware loading can be performed by referring to the following documentation, specifically the section "3. Firmware Upload":
