# WIZ610io & Arduino IDE & ESP32

## Question

Asked by giulioto on 2025-09-15 in Ethernet Chips.

I tried to compile the exemple LinkStatus using the library ethernet.h downloaded from <https://github.com/Wiznet/Ethernet/tree/IPv6> using WIZ610io with Arduino IDE and ESP32 DevKitC, but the compiler returns many errors. I use Arduino IDE v 2.3.5.

Hello,

The `ethernet.h` library you downloaded from `https://github.com/Wiznet/Ethernet/tree/IPv6` is based on Arduino’s standard `SPI.h` and includes pin macro definitions for some boards such as AVR, SAMD, and STM32.

However, ESP32-specific macros (like `ARDUINO_ARCH_ESP32`) are not fully implemented in the base code. This means the library cannot be considered as officially supporting ESP32 100%.

That said, since the library works on top of `SPIClass`, it is still possible to use it on ESP32 with some manual adjustments (such as setting SPI pins and explicitly defining the CS pin).

Currently, WIZnet does not provide an official Arduino Ethernet library for ESP32 + W6100.

In the meantime, I recommend checking an external guide that explains how to use Ethernet(W5500) with ESP32:
