# W5500 and Vulnerable OS: HP-UX B.10.20

## Question

Asked by gucheng on 2025-08-01 in Ethernet Chips.

Hi Team,

we are using W5500 chips for TCP/IP application in our product. some audit firm scan find our product is running on Vulnerable OS: HP-UX B.10.20, but we are running on freeRTOS.

does W5500 TCP/IP stack share some code/library from OS: HP-UX B.10.20? please advise. thanks.

Best
Gu

The W5500 is a chip with a built-in hardware TCP/IP protocol stack.
It does not contain an operating system, and there is no software code inside the chip.

The W5500 has no relation to HP-UX,
and it does not use any code or libraries from HP-UX B.10.20.

The identification of HP-UX by the security scanner is unrelated to the actual operation of the W5500,
and is a false result. The W5500 operates using an independent hardware-based TCP/IP stack.

Thank you.
