# Timeout for going to Socket closed state

## Question

Asked by Anusha on 2024-01-11 in Ethernet Chips.

Hello team,

I was looking at the state diagram of Socket states in W6100 datasheet and I can see that there is a timeout for going from Socket Established to Socket Closed state. Could you please let me know what is the timeout value?

Thanks,
Anusha

Most probably it is related to any operation of the socket in established state which requires response from the remote node - on the picture `send` and `recv`, which require `ack` packet back. If this packet does not arrive in time (see RTR/RCR/KPALVTR and related registers and their descriptions) then socket is considered is dead and auto-close at W6100 side.
