# Read register to detect link on W5100?

## Question

Asked by mcguire on 2016-01-22 in Ethernet Chips.

Hi folks. Is it possible to determine if a W5100 has link (i.e., sees carrier) by reading a register? I don’t see anything in the datasheet about it. This would seem to be a relatively important function. ![](https://emoji.discourse-cdn.com/twitter/wink.png?v=12)
