## Article

### **Introduction (written by the author)**

The Zephyr Project is a scalable real-time operating system (RTOS) supporting multiple hardware architectures, optimized for resource-constrained devices, and built with security in mind.

The Zephyr OS is based on a small-footprint kernel designed for use on resource-constrained systems: from simple embedded environmental sensors and LED wearables to sophisticated smart watches and IoT wireless gateways.

The Zephyr kernel supports multiple architectures, including ARM (Cortex-A, Cortex-R, Cortex-M), Intel x86, ARC, Nios II, Tensilica Xtensa, and RISC-V, SPARC, MIPS, and a large number of [supported boards](http://docs.zephyrproject.org/latest/boards/index.html).

**Supplementary explanation**

Looking into Nordic DevZone Community.

The oldest W5500's post is 8 years ago. And the W5500's post related to Zephyr is 1 year ago.

Increasing interest in Zephyr, the value of W5500 ethernet chip is on the rise.

**Future market value**

Zephyr RTOS is certified on PSA level one.

There is no doubt about the importance of security in the IoT market. The various MCU application needs to support connectivity under security.** The only alternatives would be Wiznet's Ethernet solution, W5100, W5500, etc.**
