# Arduino Tutorial : Telnet Client

> .

Original source: https://myrobotduino.blogspot.kr/2016/08/telnet-client.html

## Article

**DETAILS**

This example connects to a Telnet server using an[Ethernet shield](http://www.lelong.com.my/arduino-ethernet-w5100-shield-micro-sd-card-slot-robotshop-I2404949-2007-01-Sale-I.htm).

## **Step 1: What You Need?**

1 x [Arduino Board](http://www.lelong.com.my/merchant/robotshop-Arduino-C1-206687-1.htm) ( [Arduino UNO](http://www.lelong.com.my/arduino-compatible-dccduino-uno-r3-atmel-atmega-328p-ver2-robotshop-I5277877-2007-01-Sale-I.htm) used in this tutorial)
1 x [Arduino Ethernet Shield](http://www.lelong.com.my/arduino-ethernet-w5100-shield-micro-sd-card-slot-robotshop-I2404949-2007-01-Sale-I.htm)

## **Software Required**

– A telnet server

– Alternatively, [Processing](http://www.processing.org/) has a ChatServer example that works well for this purpose

## **Step 2: Build Your Circuit.**

The [Ethernet shield](http://www.lelong.com.my/arduino-ethernet-w5100-shield-micro-sd-card-slot-robotshop-I2404949-2007-01-Sale-I.htm) allows you to connect a WizNet Ethernet controller to the [Arduino boards](http://www.lelong.com.my/merchant/robotshop-Arduino-C1-206687-1.htm) via the SPI bus. It uses pins 10, 11, 12, and 13 for the SPI connection to the WizNet. Later models of the [Ethernet shield](http://www.lelong.com.my/arduino-ethernet-w5100-shield-micro-sd-card-slot-robotshop-I2404949-2007-01-Sale-I.htm) also have an SD Card on board. Digital pin 4 is used to control the slave select pin on the SD card.

## **Step 3: Upload The Code.**

– Details are explained! You just do step by step!
