Project Introduction: Arduino Ethernet W5100 and Servo Motor

Author: Mauricio Ithalo

In this project, we explore the testing of the W5100 Ethernet module that allows Arduino projects to connect to the internet and local area networks (LAN).

What to Consider When Controlling a Servo Motor with Arduino Ethernet W5100?

In this experiment, we connect a servo motor to an Arduino Mega 2560 board and control it through the W5100 Ethernet module. We'll set up a small web server on this module, allowing us to remotely rotate the servo motor by 90 degrees from a hosted website.

Here's what you'll need for this test:

1. Arduino Mega 2560 board or Arduino Uno.

2. Ethernet module W5100.

3. Servo motor.

4. A direct UTP patch cable to connect the module to your LAN.

5. An adapter (6-9 VDC, required in some cases for servo current).

Below is the wiring diagram for the servo motor, Arduino Mega 2560, and the W5100 module:

- The control wire (yellow) of the servo motor should be connected to pin 7.

- The LED should be connected to pin 5.

- The servo motor should be connected to the voltage source of the Mega 2560 using the red and black wires (5V and 0V/GND, respectively).

You can find the code to load onto the Mega 2560 development board in this GitHub repository.

It's important to assign an address within the LAN range to the W5100 module to properly communicate and verify the IP address of the modem on the Windows console for successful communication.

In the following video, we explain how to assign an IP address to the W5100 board and set up its web server functionality.
