## Project Overview: The "Traffic Controller" of Heat

A solar thermal system doesn't work just by having panels on the roof. It requires precise control of **'Heat Movement'**: moving hot fluid to the storage tank, reheating it when it cools, and distributing it for domestic use.

**'Centralina Solare'** acts as the brain managing this flow. Think of it as a **"Traffic Light for Energy."Panels are hot?** → Turn on the pump to move water to the tank.

**Tank is full?** → Divert the flow to a secondary tank (via a 3-Way Valve).

**Internet Connection?** → Report current temperature and status to the server (Home Assistant) via the **WIZnet W5500**.

This device allows users to check if "the water is heated to 50°C" from their living room smartphone, without having to descend into a dark basement.

## 2. WIZnet Chip Focus: Why W5500 over WiFi?

The most notable feature of this project is the choice of **Wired Ethernet (W5500)** over Wireless (WiFi). From WIZnet's perspective, this is a highly logical and exemplary design choice.

### 🚩 The Pain Point

Solar controllers and boiler systems are typically installed in **basements, mechanical rooms, or inside thick metal cabinets**. These environments are essentially **"Graveyards for Wireless Signals."** If WiFi disconnects or becomes unstable, the user loses the ability to monitor the heating system's critical status.

### 💡 The W5500 Solution

The designer solved this by integrating the **WIZnet W5500 Ethernet Controller**.

**Hardware TCP/IP Stability:** The W5500 handles internet protocols via hardwired logic. While the main MCU (e.g., ESP32) focuses on pump control and temperature calculations, the W5500 ensures seamless data communication.

**SPI Interface:** It connects to the MCU using few pins via SPI, leaving plenty of GPIOs available for temperature sensors and relay controls.

**Industrial Reliability:** It guarantees stable 24/7 MQTT data transmission via a wired LAN, even in the electrical noise and harsh conditions of a mechanical room.

---

## 3. Technical Deep Dive

This section analyzes the core technology blocks for engineers and developers.

### A. Control Logic & Communication

**MCU:** The brain of the system. It reads temperature sensor values and calculates `ΔT` (Delta T: the temperature difference between the collector and the tank). If the difference exceeds the setpoint, the pump is activated.

**Ethernet (W5500):** Connects to the MCU via SPI. using the MQTT protocol, it transmits `On/Off` status, `Current Temperature`, and `Error Messages` to the upper-level system (OpenHAB, Home Assistant).

### B. Power Control Stage

**TRIAC Control:** Instead of mechanical relays, **TRIACs** are used to control AC motor loads like pumps. This ensures a longer lifespan (no mechanical wear) and includes **Zero-crossing detection** circuits to minimize switching noise.

**Galvanic Isolation:** The high-voltage side (220V) and the low-voltage side (Control unit) are completely isolated using **Optocouplers**, protecting the W5500 and MCU from electrical surges.

### C. Sensor Interface

**Temperature Sensing:** Analog inputs are used to monitor temperatures at multiple points (Solar Panel, Main Tank, Secondary Tank) in real-time.

---

## 4. Value & Potential Derivatives

This project demonstrates the power of WIZnet solutions in the context of **"IoT Retrofitting for Analog Systems."**

### 💎 WIZnet Value Proposition

**Industrial IoT (IIoT) Suitability:** Although a home project, the design specifications (Isolation, Wired Communication, TRIAC control) are close to industrial standards. It proves the W5500 is suitable for **Mission Critical** facility monitoring where failure is not an option.

**MCU Independence:** By using the W5500, users can "add-on" robust internet capabilities to any MCU they prefer, whether it's an 8-bit AVR or a high-performance 32-bit ARM.

### 🚀 Derivative Projects

Based on this design, the concept can be expanded into the following industrial solutions:

**Smart Farm Nutrient Control:** Applying the pump control logic to remotely control water and nutrient supply systems in greenhouses via Ethernet.

**Factory Cooling Monitor:** Monitoring coolant temperatures in factory equipment, controlling circulation pumps, and sending immediate alarms to a central control room in case of anomalies.

**UPS Battery Room Management:** Reliably monitoring temperature and status in underground battery rooms where wireless signals are weak or non-existent.

**'Centralina Solare'**

(Pain Point)

(Solution)

---

(Technical Deep Dive)

### A. 제어부 (Control Logic) & 통신

(Power Stage)

(Value Proposition)

(Derivatives)
