## Article

### Overview

The **RP2350-POE-ETH** is a compact development board from **Waveshare** (Shenzhen, China) that puts a Raspberry Pi **RP2350A** microcontroller onto a board with a built-in RJ45 Ethernet port driven by WIZnet's **W6300** hardwired TCP/IP controller. Power and networking can both arrive over a single Ethernet cable when the optional PoE module is fitted, or the board can run from USB Type-C. It targets small, wired IoT nodes where Wi-Fi is unwanted and a clean Ethernet uplink, with or without PoE, is the point.

What makes this board notable is the specific pairing: **RP2350A + W6300 + optional 802.3af PoE on a plain GPIO-header form factor.** WIZnet's own W6300-EVB-Pico2 and Waveshare's earlier RP2350 Ethernet boards used the W5500, or shipped without an advertised PoE option. This board brings the faster QSPI-interfaced W6300 and a low-cost PoE path together in one inexpensive package.

### Why the W6300 matters here

The **W6300** is WIZnet's "iEthernet" controller with a fully hardwired TCP/IP stack, so the RP2350 offloads the network stack to dedicated silicon instead of spending CPU cycles and RAM on software TCP/IP. Unlike the SPI-based W5500 used on many earlier RP2350 boards, the W6300 uses a **QSPI interface** for higher throughput (WIZnet has demonstrated the W6300 at roughly 80 Mbps in prior EVB coverage), while still supporting IPv4 and the familiar socket-register programming model. For a maker moving from a W5500 board, the concepts carry over; the ceiling is higher.

### Key specifications

- **MCU:** Raspberry Pi RP2350A — dual-core Arm Cortex-M33 **and** dual-core Hazard3 RISC-V, up to 150 MHz (two cores active at a time: 2×Arm, 2×RISC-V, or 1+1)

- **Memory / storage:** 520 KB internal SRAM, 8 KB OTP, 16 Mbit (2 MB) SPI NOR flash

- **Ethernet:** 10/100 Mbps RJ45 via WIZnet **W6300** hardwired TCP/IP controller (QSPI)

- **PoE:** 6-pin header for an **optional** PoE module; 802.3af when fitted

- **USB:** USB 1.1 Type-C for power, data, and programming

- **GPIO:** 2 × 16-pin headers, through-hole and castellated — up to 20 usable GPIO; 2× UART, 2× SPI, 2× I2C, 16× PWM, 4× 12-bit 500 ksps ADC, 3× PIO blocks (12 state machines), HSTX

- **Misc:** WS2812 RGB LED, Boot + Reset buttons, 3× SWD pads, on-chip temperature sensor

- **Power:** 5 V via USB-C, or optional PoE; 3.3 V LDO rated up to 800 mA

- **Dimensions:** PCB 63 × 21 mm (65.88 × 21 mm with USB-C and RJ45 connectors)

- **Toolchains:** C/C++, MicroPython, Arduino

### Supported communication modes

The board and its examples cover **TCP Server, TCP Client, UDP Server, and UDP Client** modes out of the box, matching the standard WIZnet socket usage. Waveshare's GitHub repository includes a worked **MQTT-over-Ethernet** sample that reports battery information, provided in all three supported languages (C/C++, MicroPython, Arduino).

### Version options

Waveshare sells the board in four variants. The base part number and the "-M" suffix control pre-soldered headers; the "-Kit" suffix bundles the PoE module. All four support PoE expansion — the non-Kit versions simply ship without the module.

| Variant | Headers | PoE module |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **RP2350-POE-ETH** | Unsoldered | Not included |
| **RP2350-POE-ETH-M** | Pre-soldered | Not included |
| **RP2350-POE-ETH-Kit** | Unsoldered | Included |
| **RP2350-POE-ETH-M-Kit** | Pre-soldered | Included |

### Pricing and where to buy

- **Waveshare store:** US $13.99 – $18.99 across the four variants — <https://www.waveshare.com/rp2350-poe-eth.htm>

- **AliExpress:** approx. US $16.19 – $20.33

- **Amazon:** approx. US $21.11 – $27.99

Prices observed late July 2026 and will vary by variant and region; confirm on the vendor page before quoting.

### Where it fits in the RP2350 + WIZnet family

This board slots into a growing line of RP2350 Ethernet boards. Compared with WIZnet's **W6300-EVB-Pico2** (same W6300 controller, Pico form factor, no onboard PoE) and Waveshare's earlier **RP2350-ETH / RP2350-MINI(ETH)** boards (W5500-based), the RP2350-POE-ETH is the option to reach for when you specifically want **W6300 throughput plus a cheap PoE path** in a small GPIO-breakout board. For industrial I/O instead of raw GPIO, Waveshare's related **RP2350-POE-ETH-8DI-8RO** (8 digital inputs, 8 relays, DIN-rail, W5500) is a different product aimed at control-cabinet use, not the same board.

### Value and limits

**Value:** Cheap wired-Ethernet node with a hardwired TCP/IP stack, a genuinely fast controller (W6300/QSPI), an optional single-cable PoE deployment, and first-class support across C/C++, MicroPython, and Arduino. The castellated edge lets it drop onto a carrier board for a product design.

**Limits:** Ethernet is 10/100 Mbps at the RJ45 (the W6300's higher internal throughput is not a gigabit port). PoE is an **added-cost module**, not onboard, and the base SKUs do not include it. Flash is 2 MB — ample for firmware, tight for large asset storage. There is no onboard wireless; this is deliberately a wired board.
