IoT Based Water Overflow Management system using Flownomo device and Smart Switch.


Description :

This project shows how you can make a  device called as  ‘FloNoMo’ that  solves the problem of overflowing water tanks by switching off the motor when the tank  overflow is detected . Also , it can function on a scheduled basis so that we don’t have to worry about switching the motor on and off everyday .

When the water overflowing  from  pipe comes in contact with the water detector, this triggers the relay to switch off. The scheduling feature allows us to turn-on  the motor  everyday at a  particular time and  notifies you through  a message that the motor is switched on.Below is the screen-capture of the  scheduler dashboard .

Thus  the project helps solve a generic problem of water wastage and also provides  an automated system to perform tasks at scheduled timings.


Components Used :

  • Wemos D1 mini
  • Arduino Uno with  Wiznet w5100 Ethernet shield
  • Water detector
  • 5v 10A relay
  • Custom made AC input socket
  • 9v Power adaptor

Software used :

  • myDevices Cayenne : a drag-and-drop IoT project builder.


Triggers :

When the water from overflow pipe comes in contact with the water detector. this trigger the relay to switch off. It also a message is send to user that the sensor has reached threshold value.

Scheduling :

Using the scheduling feature we can start the motor on daily bases. This adds more feature as, the time taken to fill the water varies as it depends on water pressure, so the time may vary. Now only when the water overflow the flownomo switches off the motor. Scheduling feature allows to switch on motor everyday at particular time also sends you a message that the motor is switched on.
