PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Overview

ENERVIS introduced a control solution for shipyard power distribution panels using a KinCony product equipped with WIZnet’s W5500. The solution is used to control devices such as door locks, buzzers, and lamps mounted on distribution panel doors.

With W5500-based Ethernet connectivity, the KinCony product links digital inputs, digital outputs, and analog inputs over a local network, allowing the system to read measured values and exchange control data in real time.

By combining Ethernet-based I/O networking with practical field control, the solution helps simplify monitoring and control of shipyard distribution panel equipment.


Background

In shipyard environments, power distribution panels often require reliable local control of door-related and alarm-related devices. These include electric door locks, buzzers for warning or status indication, and lamps used to show operating conditions.

At the same time, operators need a convenient way to:

  • Read input and measurement values from panel-side devices
  • Send control commands over a local network
  • Integrate multiple I/O points into one manageable Ethernet-based system
  • Improve visibility of panel status without relying only on point-to-point wiring

To address these needs, ENERVIS adopted a KinCony Ethernet I/O product with W5500 to build a practical network-connected control solution for shipyard power panels.


Solution

In this project, the installed controller includes WIZnet’s W5500 as the Ethernet communication core. The device connects DI, DO, and AI to a local network so that field data can be collected and control commands can be transmitted efficiently.

The solution is used for shipyard distribution panel applications including:

  • Door lock control
  • Buzzer control
  • Lamp control
  • Measurement value reading
  • Data transmission over the local Ethernet network

This structure allows ENERVIS to manage field signals and output devices through a single Ethernet-based platform rather than relying only on isolated local wiring.


System Architecture

The system can be understood as follows:

1. Field Device Connection

Door locks, buzzers, lamps, and sensing points in the distribution panel are connected to the controller through DI, DO, and AI channels.

2. Local Data Acquisition

The controller reads measurement values and input states from the panel-side devices.

3. Ethernet Communication with W5500

The built-in W5500 enables the controller to connect these I/O points to the local network.

4. Data Exchange and Control

Operators or upper-level systems can send commands through the network to control outputs such as locks, buzzers, and lamps, while also receiving measured values and status information.

5. Panel Monitoring and Operation

This creates a practical local-network-based control environment for shipyard power distribution panels.


Key Technologies

W5500

The W5500 is the Ethernet connectivity core used in the product. It provides hardwired TCP/IP networking and integrated Ethernet MAC/PHY, making it suitable for embedded industrial Ethernet applications.

Ethernet-based I/O Integration

By connecting DI, DO, and AI over the local network, the system can both monitor field values and send control data through the same infrastructure.

Shipyard Panel Control

The solution is applied to shipyard distribution panels where reliable control of door locks, buzzers, and lamps is required.
